As a professional in the financial services industry since 1991, Howard Barnett has proven his dedication to his clients. Howard uses his wide range of work and life experiences to help his clients achieve their financial goals.  His ability to make people feel comfortable has proven a valuable resource to assist clients in assessing their financial needs and personal goals.  His people skills were honed in his youth where he grew up in a retail family business environment.  At age 22 he, with a partner opened the first of several retail consumer electronics stores.  The knowledge gained in his own business, combined with the executive position he held at Crutchfield Corporation (one of the most successful online, mail order/retail consumer electronics companies in the country) gives him a unique first hand perspective in analyzing companies and the Financial Service needs of Individuals, Business owners and Professional Practitioners (i.e. Realtors, Attorneys, Dentists, Physicians, etc.).  Howard was selected for the “Small Businessman” award from the Nevada Small Business Development Center (1987).

Prior to opening Barnett Financial Group in December 2004, Howard gained extensive financial experience servicing as an Account Vice-President at Wheat First Securities/Wheat First Union (a predecessor firm of Wells Fargo Advisors), and UBS/Paine Webber Financial Services.

Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Howard received his BA from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) in 1976. Graduate level Accounting and Business Management Classes continued Howard’s formal schooling.  His professional designations include: Series 7, 24, 63, and 65 Securities Registrations, Life /Health/ Annuity Insurance Licenses, AAMS®, CRPC® (Chartered Retirement Planning Counselorsm -administered through the College for Financial Planning), and he is a graduate of the Financial Planning Institute. Howard previously served over 10 years on the Board of Directors for Junior Achievement of Central Virginia, and he volunteered in Charlottesville and Albemarle County middle and high school classrooms as a Junior Achievement Mentor and Consultant.

Howard spends his personal, non-family time playing basketball and exercising at a local health club. He is a competitive amateur bowler and also keeps active in music, a lifetime avocation, with his band “MidLife Crisis Band of Charlottesville”, performing at many local venues and for non-profit organizations.  Howard and his wife, Beth, have been married for over 40 years and enjoy their three sons and two granddaughters.
